For those who don't follow BOTY, G-Rock just got another 7 medals and three honorable mentions at the National Homebrew Competition, which by his count, puts him tied for second overall for BOTY. Even though he's not on the forum, he does Brewnosers as his club.

Re: Brewer of the Year
Thanks Chris! But what ever happened to the other Brewnosers and competitions? There was a huge effort for the Brewnosers' competition (both by the people who put on the competition and the competitors) and many Brewnoser awards were one that day. I thought we were on a roll. I still think we can make it to #4 as a club this year, maybe #3 (currently #5). Could use some help though.chalmers wrote:Well done GRock!GuingesRock wrote:Thanks!

Thanks Keith, I broke the tie this morning and now have 89 points, ahead of #3 (last year's champ) by seven points. The Brewnosers' club is edging up on #4 also with 114 points now.Keith wrote:Mark is tied for second at 72 points, and helped the club reach 5th overall.

Re: Brewer of the Year
Yes that's a nice competition. Not on BOTY though I'm in the process of making a RIPA and an Alt. RIPA on the go last week (below, quite red) and prepping for the Alt tomorrow. I like those guys and our judges, and very happy to have the opportunity to compete locally.amartin wrote:I imagine there will be plenty of Brewnosers in the Big Spruce competition.
Also, I really like the idea of a Red IPA. It's one of the new BJCP styles that really appealed to me.

Re: Brewer of the Year
Keith, I used some Carastan, bit of C80 and a touch of roasted barley, along with lots of Munich 11. Had to use crystal in order to get the red colourKeith wrote:Hope you didn't use any crystal malts and risk oxidation lol.
Any way, that C40 causing oxidation might be nonsense. Wasn't it you that came up with that any way my memory is terrible.

I had one of you're crystally hoppy beers before and I liked it quite a lot. I suppose if you have enough hops you can cover up anythingKeith wrote:With it being nonsense lol I brewed v1 of hoppily ever after which had 30% Crystal malts. I think we ruled that out haha

Don't think my red will use any crystal...just blood from a sacrificial brewer...homage to the beer godsGuingesRock wrote:I had one of you're crystally hoppy beers before and I liked it quite a lot. Re: Brewer of the Year
Bugger it! with that kind of imagination and innovation I don't stand a chance. You'll win and I shouldn't have bothered. I think you might win any way ...even if you can't find a brewer to sacrifice, just because you are making it without crystaljacinthebox wrote:Don't think my red will use any crystal...just blood from a sacrificial brewer...homage to the beer godsGuingesRock wrote:I had one of you're crystally hoppy beers before and I liked it quite a lot.
