At a cost of 91.64 to ship 2 beers, I'm going to need to respectfully step out of this comp, can't justify spending that much on S&H.
I was wondering about the likelihood of the beer freezing during transport. I haven't had this happen to me yet, how big of a concern is it?

I don't think it is an issue. I discussed it with Canada post and also fedex. I wrap by bottles with bubble wrap, which protects and also insulates against hot and cold.

I have always been of the mindset that the summer is more likely to cause me issues, i always find my bottled beer doesn't do well in the heat and the flavor goes downhill. I used to ship live fish from BC to NB in the winter and they would just box up a styrofoam cooler and it worked fine. I suppose it would probably be cheaper to do the same then to pay the outrageous overnight fees.

That being said there is merit to shipping the beer fast to avoid other issues in transit as well, i think i generally use express post. That being said it is going to be a very expensive comp for me b/c shipping from NL is insane.

Mark - how did you ship your beer to NYC? It's cold there too.

Same, fedex, 2 or 3 days, individually bubble wrapped and in a cardboard box. New York isn't far from us. Summer scares me more with the hot weather.

fedex international economy. It seemed to be a combination of air and ground. There's some tracking info posted, including tracking # if you want to look that up.

Fedex economy / express saver / 3 day air to this comp in a box that's 12x12x12 and weighs 30 lbs (that's about 9 entries) is $89.54 on their web calculator. That's what I've used in all the comps I've sent to in the past.

Based on poor math skills, I thought shipping cost more based on robs numbers. I think I'm back in.

Keith, send your beers to me by the weekend with entry forms and receipt and I'll put them in my box. I might have room for 2 more beers in there. It will cost you $10 by canada post to get them to Wolfville overnight. I just sent 6 beers to Garrison and it was $12.

I'm out again, Fedex quoted me at $50 something for entries. I'll keep my bottles aside, hopefully they'll still be good for ALES.

What categories are you guys in, I still like to watch when the results come in.
