What are you talking about Mark! you made a 41 IPA before, or was it higher than that? You have some great scores there. I think I sent roughly the same to Lethbridge. I'll be really mad if they don't like my bitter either.

Re: [Competition Open] Cowtown Yeast Wranglers 2015
I had a 40 for my IPA at the national capital homebrew comp, that was a 15 gal batch i had brewed on my home system. I haven't been able to replicate the same level of scores with the subsequent batches but they have been close (averaging 35 to 38). I think a big thing since i've moved to NL is i have been buying some of my hops locally and they are terribly oxidized, i am very glad everwood has fresh citra in stock now, i better order some before its gone.

One way to find out - pick up some RO water to try for a few batches. I use RO from Sobeys (Culligan Refill Station) and it costs me about 9 bucks for a 10g batch.

Just make sure you do mineral additions with the RO as it's been stripped of everything.

Justin, I got my first medal in June last year at Because Beer. I sent to every competition for six months before that. I tried to ask for help online here, with the "My brewing is all fucked up" thread. People suggested some useful ideas. Nash and HP tasted one and said, "good beer, but something is off" they couldn't pinpoint the problem, neither could the judges at the competitions nail it down. One day I smelt the hops I was buying and they smelt like cheese/feet. I was so mad. They were vacuum packed in clear bags fresh from the supplier. Since then I have only used N2 packed hop union hops from Toronto Brewing Supplies, and lately OBK have been stocking some I noticed, 1 ounce packs are the best. I trusted the supplier and didn't think to question or smell the hops, and it cost me.
People say sanitation and fermentation temp control, but they rarely say quality ingredients, and I think that's a big one as well. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
That's my story. Still learning, but that was a big lesson.

Thanks for the tip.
Ive only ever had bad hops a few times. ..I stopped buying my hops from there...i always smell the hops before dumping into the kettle just incase.
ill share what the judges say...it may help point me in the right direction

I don't think you'll see membership fees charged here - why create a "barrier to entry"? The purpose of the club is to share/expand the knowledge & appreciation of good beer..charging a membership fee would only hinder this.

Yup a membership fee would go against most of what is awesome about the Brewnosers.. The 5% fee on grain buys is great though as it is 100% optional
