The Gala was last night, great to see lots of you there. There were ~45 entries submitted this year, but I heard of lots of entries that were held back by the brewers, for not being quite up to snuff. The gala wasn't as crazy-packed as it had been previously, which was nice to be able to move around and chat with everyone. It was open to the public, at $5 for unlimited samples, the best deal in town.

Congratulations to Mark Power for his winning Experimental American IPA! His Chamomile entry (with a touch of honey malt) won over the 5 finale judges.

Other finalists: Toasted Coconut by EZ (my partner, though I didn't have anything to do with the beer), Earl Grey Tea by Dana Giorgio (I'm sure I got his name wrong), and Parmesan & Jalepeno by Renan Risser (also sure I got her name wrong).

Attendees also got to get the first tastes of Mr. Robusto, the Robust Porter brewed by Dave Martin in last year's competition. Great beer, nice chocolate character. The label is perfect, a bit of play on "Mr. Roboto", though I was pronouncing it "Roboosto" last night, like the cigar. Oops.

A fun event, lots of happy faces, only two judges were assaulted for their score sheet evaluations ;)

Congrats again, Mark!

Jimmy, please give him a star.

Great seeing people out last night. Congrats to the winners! Also, nice job by the judges - my sheets were filled out quite nicely.

Great job Mark! :rockin: Wish I could have stayed and tried the winners.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
