Re: Garrison Comp
It seems I recall someone telling me two beers max per head brewer is what they allow.

Re: Garrison Comp
Don't put anything on the individual bottles, keep the bottles together in a bag/box and include your entry form. Any markings on them will need to be removed/marked out before judging, so please make life easier for the organizer/stewards/judges.jacinthebox wrote:are you guys just tagging the beer with ur name?
And try to choose bottles with no distinguishing features, and label-free. Don't mark on the caps, and try to use non-discript caps.
None of those are *strict* requirements (ie will get your beer disqualified), but again, will make life easier for everyone involved.

I'm happy with mine. A bit stronger on the clove flavor than I was expecting but I still enjoy it.

Good luck Keith!
Here's a brewing TV episode where they brew a Weizen the same way that you did (I think). It's really about open fermentation and that's very interesting, but he brews his house weizen with open fermentation and reckons he gets more esters that way.

I didn't ferment this way. Bucket lid snapped on, with an airlock. Only difference would be plastic vs glass.GuingesRock wrote:Good luck Keith!

Re: Garrison Comp
We're entering two.
It might have been three. The first of the three that we brewed was lower than ideal ABV but it tasted effing fantastic on bottling day; banana-forward with light clove in the background and perfectly hazy... Then I dropped it. 23L of weizen doesn't seem like much weizen in a carboy. It seems like a heck of a lot of weizen when it's flowing all over your kitchen floor.
Happy competing, all!

Re: Garrison Comp
I hope someone's weizen brew went well so Garrison don't think we're a bunch of halfwits. I found it a challenge to say the least.

I just put "hefe weizen" into Google translate and it came up with "half wit."mumblecrunch wrote:I think you mean "half-weizens"?GuingesRock wrote:...so Garrison don't think we're a bunch of halfwits.

I wouldn't mind betting $5 on Keith. He seems quietly confident. Redoubt have been researching like crazy so there's another potential winner.
An then of course there are the experienced weizen brewers ...which is probably what counts.

Re: Garrison Comp
The style is tuff get right. I have made 2 and tried them both tonight , one is much better then the other in my opinon. Split a 10gal batch and used 2 different yeast. I know which one I'll be entering if they taste the same out of a bottle
It's the first time I have ever brewed this style.
