According to their facebook site, Garrison has 62 entries this year! Pretty stiff competition. How many entries can we account for I wonder?

Right there is a good reason that the whole flight should be sampled by the 3 judges. I really wish they would change this. End 'rant'.

When I talked to Patrice at Beerfest this year he told me they were hoping to do it that way this year. I'm not sure if will happen or not though.

Re: Garrison's 2012 Ultimate Brew-off Challenge
5 a day?? That is fracked. They should really be tasting all of them in a day or two (save a few bottles of day 1's top contenders to compare with day 2). And it should be weeded down by more than just Daniel.
BTW, as of Monday, Patrice had not been asked to judge, so who knows what their plan is this year. I imagine they will ask him and the other BJCP judges in the area. However, they really should be asking them earlier, to allow for their schedules. these guys donate their time, and traveling expenses (where applicable), Garrison should show some respect and give them plenty of notice.

I agree with all that you posted and counter with my knowledge of how certain brewery owners in Halifax operate.chalmers wrote:5 a day?? That is fracked. No. Kidding. When we judge wines, 50 a day is normal. You _can_ spit beer...chalmers wrote:5 a day?? That is fracked. They should really be tasting all of them in a day or two (save a few bottles of day 1's top contenders to compare with day 2).

I was surprised last year when one of the top 3 (I think it was the winners?) were pouring at the gala out of bottles with the old labels still on them. It never occurred to me that I didn't have to take them off...mr x wrote:Some people didn't even bother to peel the old labels off, lmfao....![]()

I try to take the labels off all my bottles, competition or not. I don't want friends and family thinking that I'm serving them store bought swill!CorneliusAlphonse wrote:i never peel labels off. but maybe i would have if i had entered the competitionmr x wrote:Some people didn't even bother to peel the old labels off, lmfao....![]()

An overnight soak in a tub of hot water and oxyclean and most of the labels are floating on the surface in the morning.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I always peeled the labels off. While I was drinking them. I embarrassed my wife so much that I switched to label-free kegs...CorneliusAlphonse wrote: i never peel labels off. but maybe i would have if i had entered the competition

I too, was not chosen!
However, I thankfully do enjoy both of my beer, cause I have a lot of it to drink!
