It's all blind. One person gets the secret list of beers & entrants and the judges just get a class number & entry ID.

Judges can't judge a class in which they have an entry, so the only real restriction is "if you want to judge, don't enter every class!"
Currently on tap: Nothing!

By entering the comp, you are helping. You actually are helping train the new judges. Enter and enter often...

I would love to help out and love to enter. Would it be possible to get a judging workshop organized? I think that could really help us all as brewers and help events like this get up and going.

What would you want to see in a "judging workshop"? Advice on what class to enter in, or whether its worth entering?

I mean a workshop on how to judge. Do we have certified BJCP judges or are we just going with non-certified volunteers? Either way it would be good to get a little more training on the judging process.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

We have BJCP certified judges. You missed the training. We had 12 people take and pass the online exam in the winter, and then take the tasting exam in April. I see no reason to assume we won't have at least 12 certified (local) BJCP judges (Tracy & Jeff, who've already agreed to judge, and I believe both Mark & Steve Haynes of Noble Grape, are already certified), and I'm sure we can get at least a two-thirds pass rate on the tasting exam. Plus, it's not usually that hard to get in some extras, if we give them enough notice.

So who is actually the head Organizer of this project?

I ask because I want to sponsor or partially sponsor this event. Contact me and I'll give you money and prizes.

I'd like to brew and enter a few of my brews...just to see if I'm the only one (and the "boys"/although they may be being nice because it's free) really enjoy them...

I'm impressed! I apologize for underestimating my fellow Brewnosers. Good work guys.

I have 37 entries ready to go...where do I send them? :spilly: :rockin:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

There is no way I won't have something for this comp... even if it is BAD beer,

I have a few surprises to send along when it is time. ;)

Whats the status on this competition? I read earlier in this post that it you had to register for a competition with the BJCP 90 days before the comp. Did this get done?

Has Derek thrown in the towel? It might be worth getting a group together to share organizing duties if so...
