Re: Broadhead Brewing Company and OBK PRO-AM!
I didn't really have any Christmasey/Holiday type beers, unfortunately, so I just sent in a Doppelbock that I brewed back in January.

Re: Broadhead Brewing Company and OBK PRO-AM!
We are doing the first round of judging Sat Jan 5th. The entries that arrived at our Mitchell location are on the slate. If all goes as planned will be two actual Judges qualified to fill out the scorecards. Also have a small panel of folks in the industry like pro brewers, and very active members of the homebrew community. We know folks like feedback and working hard to try to get a card filled out and sent back for every entry. I might scribble down a few profound words like "me like" or "more" as well! Broadhead Brewing has been receiving entries at the brewery and not sure when they will go through those entrants.

Just about to send in my beer, but I'm wondering: how detailed was everyone in the recipe entry online? I put in some general info (spices, gravities, etc), but not the whole grain bill. Think that's OK?

Having never entered a competition before, I added everything in, not knowing any better.

I entered everything I could, but from the sounds of it they're not being too picky.

I'm sure that's fine. I've entered competitions before where they have that as an option, but I haven't even entered any of it. For a blinded competition, they wouldn't really be looking at that anyway, would they?chalmers wrote:Just about to send in my beer, but I'm wondering: how detailed was everyone in the recipe entry online? Hi folks. Broadhead is hoping to be able to serve this at the Ottawa Winterbrew mid February. It will not be looked at in the first round. But the info will help if progress to the next round. This is not completely following BJCP format, we are trying to hand out feedback as a courtesy.

Re: Broadhead Brewing Company and OBK PRO-AM!
I mailed my two entries on Dec 24th, but the post office wasn't reassuring that they would make it in time. Can you let me know if they get there?
Also, if mine make it to a stage that you want the recipe, I'll gladly email the complete beersmith recipe!

Mine were sent on the 24th, and checking the tracking number on CanadaPost says it should be delivered on the 4th. Hopefully they all get there in time.

They (Canada Post) told me 6 business days for delivery. Sent mine out on Dec. 21, got confirmation from OBK on the 27th.

Hi folks. No worries. One of the things we do good is communicating in a prompt manner. The other thing is keeping lint in our belly buttons.
Kyle has been marking off the entries as they come and sending the postage consolation code at the same time to acknowledge receipt of submissions. I must say the Atlantic has a extremely strong showing and I was a bit surprised!
We beat Toronto beer week for entrants which is really cool. We do not have newspapers or a Capitol behind us! Sorry for the short notice for this event. But wow, support has been awesome from everyone!

Glad to hear, Patrick! You've been nothing but professional in all our dealings, so it's no wonder there's been a keen interest in this competition!

I had keen interest too, but the holidays and my own laziness got in the way. Hope this turns into an annual thing & good luck to all the Brewnosers' entrants.chalmers wrote:Glad to hear, Patrick! Re: Broadhead Brewing Company and OBK PRO-AM!
Thank you guys. Not sure where this is going in the future. Broadhead Brewing has been very supportive and since they are only a few months past brewing on the homebrew system they started on they are ecstatic to be able to share in this and expressed interest in keeping the roots going.
Myself I am partially overwhelmed and mostly bouncing off the walls with excitement. If I can get through this event without fumbling there will likely be more events. But with more planning then a "Hey Jamie, you know what would be cool?".

Interesting. I would have expected them to email the brewers of the 10 entries who made it to the second round...

Re: Broadhead Brewing Company and OBK PRO-AM!
Hey guys this is our first event we have ran. Getting feedback mailed two days later from our understanding is very very fast. From my experience it usually takes weeks to months.
We are treading carefully and not emailing folks who are advancing because we have no winners determined and do not want news out until we release winners.

Very true - and particularly where you didn't charge an entry fee, I think you can take as much time as you need!OntarioBeerkegs wrote:From my experience it usually takes weeks to months.
