The house I put an offer on last night has a cherry tree. If I get it, I'll let you know in the fall if they're sour.

How big are the bottles? I'm looking for 5-10 lbs.

I think that you might have missed the season this year. Mine were ready last weekend. If there are still some around, there are a couple of fruit stands on the #1 between exits 11 and 12; Noggins, Elderkins and Hennigars. Failing that, you might get lucky if you drive down the 221 towards Berwick.

Noggin's still has some fresh today at the market, they sometimes have frozen ones as well!

Damn, I was at the Annapolis Royal market on Saturday, but I couldn't find any. Maybe they were gone by 12:00....

Have you tried calling Noggins or other farm markets in the valley? i would imagine if they don't sell them, they could at least help point you in the right direction. Alternatively, blomiden nurseries had sour cherry tress for sale earlier this season (possibly still do?). You may not get your 5-10lbs for a few years though...

I was in Wolfville yesterday and talked to the people at Sterlings. The said that they expected the sour cherries to be in possibly next weekend but told me to call in advance to check the availability. The phone number for the store is 542-2789.

Can confirm that Stirling has them in Wolfville. 8lb bucket for $24. Call first to avoid disappointment.

I bought the 8 lbs buckets from Sterling before. They were frozen, and most importantly, packed with sugar. I didn't account for the extra sugar when making a version of Papazian's Cherries in the Snow recipe and it turned out great, but much higher alcohol. It was a hit with my female friends (this was the early 90's when there were not very many female craft beer enthusiasts - ok, none that I knew of at the time other than a fellow grad student from the UK that didn't count).

Sour cherries are just an eating cherry that isn't very sweet - but they're still way sweeter than choke cherries. Choke cherries are native.

Yeah choke cherries are very tart. I think they have a fair amount of pectin too (but I could be wrong) so if doing a brew with them, might be a good idea to use some pectase enzyme.
