Who wants FermCap?
Ok fellas, thanks to our resident brewmaster, gourmet burger maker and sausage party host, I have received a 34 fluid ounce bottle of FermCap-S.
As a bunch of people have expressed interest in getting some, the intent is to slit it up amongst whoever wants in on a first come basis. I'm going to split it up into 2 fluid ounce nalgene bottles which will cost you an easy $5.00 ea.
For those who haven't used it or are not sure what FermCap-S is;
An anti-foam agent that can be used during fermentation to eliminate messy blowoff. As soon as fermentation is over, this insoluble compound settles out and remains behind when the beer is racked. It will not affect the finished beers flavor, appearance or head retention. Can also be added during the boil to reduce the risk of boilovers. Use a few drops per gallon for boil, or two drops per gallon for fermentation. Keep refrigerated until use.
I use it in the boil kettle and for starters to eliminate the chance of a boilover and it's fucking amazing. I use around 4-5 drops in a 12 gallon boil which I estimate is around 3ml, so 2 fluid ounces will likely last me for 20 brew sessions. A little bit goes a long way.
So, there will be 17 x 2 ounce bottles available, post here if you're in;

The plan will be that once we get the distribution list figured out over the next couple of days, I'll get things organized for a handoff at the H&T one night in the coming week. I'm thinking maybe Thursday the 30th.

If there's any left by the July meeting, I'd like to try some (&if you're gonna be there).

I've heard some brewers say they get a 10% increase in hop utilization after using it.NASH wrote:FYI Fermcap increases hop utilization and head retention

I don't know about after they use it but while using it they might!JohnnyMac wrote:I've heard some brewers say they get a 10% increase in hop utilization after using it.NASH wrote:FYI Fermcap increases hop utilization and head retention

It does improve head retention in finished beer if used in the fermenter as well but that may depend on your setup and technique more. If you do use it in the fermenter add it to the top of the wort after it's in the primary.

Any way to squeeze a bit more volume out of a small kettle goes a long way!

I'm in for a bottle. Out of town till July 1, but if you leave the bottle at H&T I can get it then (or I can get it when I borrow that keg from you, whatever is easier for you).
Thanks

If no one objects, I could take a second bottle. With the General up and running, we could still use bait of help when trying to do 85l in a 100l keggle.
