Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
I get 10-12 kegs from a 5lbs CO2 tank. I do not prime kegs with corn sugar.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Something to consider if you are not already doing this is to transfer to secondary for clearer beer. A little extra work but I had good results doing it. When I bottled I would transfer to secondary when the krausen would collapse and leave it for a good 2 weeks or longer and the sediment was minimal in the bottle.Rev. Schumps wrote:how many 19 liter kegs would a 5 lb co2 tank carbonate?
or am i asking the wrong question.. how long do your co2 tanks usually last.
I have been thinking about carbonating and then bottling and or just having some on tap.
I am just tired of the taste of too much yeast in by beer after carbonating through fermentation.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
I have tried secondaries, right now I have been letting it mature in the primary for st least a month, and that has made for some clear brew. What I don't like is halting to worry about over pouring from my bottles and getting yeast sediment in my beer.

Sounds like kegging is your solution.

hmmmm...may be going to Brentons instead now. I always went to Simplex because of pricing - location wise, Brentons is better for me.

Damn. This would be the second increase from Simplex recently. It used to be just under $10.

Yep the guy told Mike the prices just went up.
Edit: there were no other prices posted, just the flat rate for 5'ers.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Just had a chat with the Simplex guy in Dartmouth - 5lb fills went up because of the amount of CO2 lost when purging his pump. 10 and 20lb fills remain the same.
5lb - $15 plus taxes (flat rate)
10lb - $2.25/lb = $22.50 + HST
20lb - $2.25/lb = $45 + HST
Hydro remains $25
Still accepts cash, visa, mastercard or Amex - no debit available at the Dartmouth location.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
I've been contemplating upgrading to a 20lb tank for Stanley with a 5lb portable\backup. I'm going in every few months to get it filled and would save me a few $$$

Keith, I have a second 20lb that I'd be happy to trade for a pair of 5lb, or a 5lb and a working JacPac. Or a 5lb and future consideration.

Yea I need my 2nd 5lb for the jockey box (moving to 4 taps) and back up. Not sure what I'd have available for a future consideration, however I'm always swapping out gear.chalmers wrote:Keith, I have a second 20lb that I'd be happy to trade for a pair of 5lb, or a 5lb and a working JacPac. is your 20lb steel or aluminum and is it hydro tested?

I'm not home, but I am pretty sure it is steel, and has been hydro'ed while in my care, but I don't know the expiry date.

I've exchanged non-ng tanks before in a bind. They don't seem to care, might want to call to confirm first
