Crankandstein Mill

Post by GillettBreweryCnslt » Fri Apr 11, 2014 2:07 pm

Hey Everyone,

I'm going to upgrade my mill and before I do does anyone have a Crankandstein that they bought but aren't using? I figure I have so much stuff I've bought and never used I'd check before I buy.

I'm debating between Crankandstein and these guys: http://www.monsterbrewinghardware.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I like that i can get a hopper with Monster that comes disassembled for cheaper shipping.

Thanks

Dave

I'm interested in either, although I like the monsters a bit more. If it is any cheaper to order more then one I'd prob be interested in one too

I heard recently in an interview that Monster is currently developing a new slotted roller mill (similar to the northern brewer one). I'm also going to be upgrading my mill soonish, but I want to wait and see what that one is going to be like.

Nope - I heard it on the Sunday Session a couple back. The guy from Monster was on. I assume it will be along the lines of this:

Briefly, what are the advantages of the slotted mill?

Horizontally ribbed rollers provide a more uniform particle size by synchronously feeding grain through the mill. And by drawing grain through the mill without piercing it, this slotted design preserves the delicate grain husk to allow a finer crush than knurled rollers without sacrificing spargeability.

I believe if you look at any professional mill, none of them use knurled, all of them use this style. Does it really matter? Probably not, but if I'm going to spend the money...
