:cheers2: just wanted t share my last aha! moment with everyone.
bit of back story: i have a separate brewery room in the basement. i've always tried to control the room temp. with a space heater looking a the stick on thermometer on the side of the carboy. brewing increased my power bill by about $80 a month.shut the heaters down andadded brewing belts and monitored (occasionally) 16* plug them in, 24* unplug them (happens overnight). most of my beers are lots of malt lots of hops and work ok this way, I can still make good beer doing this ( if i remember).
my wife decides shes gluten free. MOST gluten free beer is terrible (My opinion and my wifes) cheapest option at the NSLB $18 for 6, NOT an option. # 2 buy the kit from noble grape(best case silly yak gluten free). I thought the stuff was terrible.had to repitch both batches, dry hop to cover the taste, give it to the wife (she liked it) done.

Dave at everwood starts selling temp controllers for 45 bucks. i buy a couple. put the thermometer right in the caboy and plugged the heater belt in at 19*c

FFD: the present:the thermometer right in the carboy. bought the hopsand yeast to cover up the taste and stuck took a gravity 1.010 ? ususally at this point .0120 and undrinkble. tasted it, no hops added and ready to carb.

buy the temp controller its worth it. best price from everwood

Yup, I have 3. A need to have IMO, especially in the warmer weather when ever that gets here.

$80/month is a LOT of power for a brewery to consume on it's own.
I think something else may be contributing to this rise as well.
Do you heat your house electrically? It has been a cold winter...

Nah it's those damn space heaters. They just chew up the electricity. We had one for a month, then fired the thing out the door after we got our power bill. Drove our power bill up $50 when we were using it in October.
