Nylon stockings / sox as grain bags?

G'day all. Just picked up by last order for a grain / extract brew and see that a grain bag was not included. I seem to recall my old father using a nylon stocking many years ago for a grain bag / hop bag - does this work? Any one know? Thanks!

If necessary you could spread the grain out throughout the entire length of the stocking or use two stockings so it wasn't tightly packed.

Sexy way to brew BTW ...first catch your woman! (my father loved quoting the first line of a recipe from an old recipe book for rabbit stew. The first line of the recipe was ..."first catch your rabbit" ).

You will want to do a quick test to see if the nylon leaches anything out. I've tried this with black ones before and a bunch of colour leaked out. I didn't end up brewing with them.

Hey Andrew. Use a paint strainer bag. I use a 5 gallon nylon I picked up at Kents.

I know. I just thought the idea of catching a woman to get the stockings had more going for it, but maybe you are right ...a trip to Kents for a strainer bag is less complicated ...plus more time for brewing ;)

+1 on the paint strainer bag. I use them when I do partial mash and they're great

Thanks Dear....

I'm old and married. I don't even think my wife owns stockings anymore. lol
