Beer Smith Water Profile and Water Analysis

Post by Woody » Fri Sep 27, 2013 6:29 pm

I've been trying to work on my water additions and figure out how to do so on Beersmith. I'm looking at a water analysis of my well water which is not treated with salts etc. I have no issues finding Chloride, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium and Sulfate. I cannot find where it says anything about Bicarbonates. I do see Alkalinity, are they the same? Or is there a calculation to figure this out? The Bicarbonate field is the only one I can't find to complete the Beersmith requirements. I've been looking online to find out everything that I can with no luck. Also do the brewers that use this profile just select a region of the beer they are making each time to compare their water to the area where it is made? IE a Belgian IPA would one pick a Belgian water source and adjust their water accordingly? Wishing I'd paid more attention in Chemistry class growing up. lol. The readings I can find remind me too much of the periodic table and loose me quick.

Thanks, Derek

Did you get your done at the Truro AC? That's where I had mine done and I remember having a tough time getting it into beer smith. I'm still not sure if I got it right.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

X I had to read that a few times but 5th up from the bottom is part of what I was looking for. Thanks man!

Bluenose I'm looking at the Water Analysis I got when I bought my house. My Real Estate Agent took care of it but it shows Agriculture Quality Evaluation Division Truro. I would assume the AC would do it for them.
