Does anyone use the 500 ml Grolsch bottles for their homebrew with the hinged ceramic tops?

I don't think I've ever changed one and have had no problems.

They are very durable, as long as there are no cracks in the rubber for bacteria to get in to you should get a lot of use out of them. I know noble grape sells the replacement tops for pennies.

I have about 300 Grolsch bottles. No seals have gone yet. I highly recommend them, a huge time saver, and always get an air tight seal.
1 con. Altho the glass is thick. I had a stout put the bottle into 8 pieces and cap still intact. Not sure if I'd rather have a top shot off, or the odd bottle go boom. I had beer 5' across the room.
If anyone is looking for cheap bottles. $4.00 at the lower sackville faders. 16 fit great in a milk crate.

I got a bunch at Tanner's by the Windsor St. Exchange the other day. The seals that came with them were silicone, and a number of them had a distinct smell of cigarette butts, even after a couple oxiclean soaks.
I got a couple bags of replacement ones at Noble Grape, but they're rubber, not silicone.
Do people use the gaskets that come on recycled bottles?

Use them, take them off when you give your bottles the initial soak. I go 1 table spoons of the pink chlorine solution to 1l hot water and leak soak for 24 hours.

I can confirm this...me and a buddy ended up with around 45 extra swingtop caps this way...lol...good thing the beer was all stored in its own closet close to a floor drain.

Heavy on the oxy clean, and boil the kettle. Cap and keep it hot for as long as possible. I used towels and cleaned them up first try.

This worked awesome. I picked up another 7 doz today and soaked the seals in boiling water and an awfully strong solution. Like 2 scoops in a 2L jar. The smaller scoops that come with the walmart stuff, probably 80/90 mL. Hour later and the off smells are gone.
Some of the new ones are bigger and have rubber seals. I think they're from Quebec. 473 mL instead of 450. Now to find some more milk crates.
