Hey guys,

Need some advice. Just kegged my blueberry cream ale. When I hooked it up to the keezer the relief valve on my regulator is leaking the second I turn the control on the regulator itself.

So the shut off valves on the manifold are off. The shut off on the regulator is off. Tank is on. I turn the dial up and as soon as pressure is applied the relief valve leaks. If I hold the valve in, I can reach 10psi which is where I set my system, soon as I let the valve out it hissing like crazy. With the one way valves open it does the same when opening the gas.

I've tried going down to 5 psi and it leaks regardless. Valves open or closed, tank turned down or up, the relief leaks. I have the OBK basic regular that comes with the start up keg kits. Any ideas? Think it is a faulty regulator or am I having a moment here. Tank's never been moved. No leaks aside from this.

He had a bad batch of cheap Chinese regulators. Sounds like you got one of those.

That's what mine looks like but it's not dual product it's dual gauge single product. Any idea if they are doesn't anything with the regulators? As of right now I'm out of a regulator till I buy a new one or get a replacement due to faulty product.

Yea, those are the cheap ones. I had a problem with mine as well, wouldn't hold a steady pressure and would rocket high alot.

Contact Patrick @ OBK and he'll take care of you. The Taprite one's are ALOT better quality IMHO.

Like many before us I tried to cut corners to pass along the lowest price or best value and so on. There has been many things I regret doing. Chinese regulators are the biggest one. And these will never be used in our kits no matter how cheap we can sell the kits for or undercut our competition. I will not use these in our kits again. Period. And my honest opinion as someone who has sold these is spend the extra money and get a kit with a American regulator.

I have learned much from these and many things have changed. I have been using nothing but Tap-rite high quality regulators for months (We skipped entry level Tap-rites as a option because of the Chinese fiasco). Our kit shanks and tailpieces come default Stainless steel(Huge value added, website out of date and says chrome as we transition). Our co2 tanks are the best available, Luxifer with Sherwood valves. We only sell ball lock kegs because you can easily get service parts for them. Our mission has gone from "the best price" to great parts with a great value that will not need replacing.

Yup, late to the forum as my relief valve just f**ed up and I lost a new #5 due to it. Another solution (from OBK) is to unscrew the relief valve and replace it with a 1/4" NPT plug. I bought a brass one at Home Hardware for $2 and will now use this reg as a backup on my backup #5 tank. This should solve the weakest link as the regulator seemed fine until the pressure relief valve diaphragm fupped uck.

I think I'd try to find another relief valve (PA maybe). IIRC, that regulator relief is there to protect your downstream gear from full tank pressure. Plugging it could do physical damage if the regulator failed.

My cheaper regulator from OBK failed and stopped regulating, dumping full pressure (my relief worked though, and vented it). I pushed the relief back in though and the pressure pegged the secondary gauge.

Come to think of it, I still have my duff regulator, so you could have the relief (no guarantees, but it worked when I used it) if you want.

Last week I tried to hook up a keg/regulator system I got during the summer (live in PEI so only just got my CO2 tank filled). For the life of me I couldn't figure out why the regulator relief valve was popping every time I opened the tank valve. Mine is the single-valve version of the pic Wildcard linked also.

This was my first keg, so I've been googling all week trying to figure out where I was going wrong. Glad to finally know, even if it does mean my gear is banjaxed.

Guess I'll be using a brass plug until I get back over to the mainland.
