So.. I've been doing far too much reading on scorching of the wort when using electric elements. Been going in circles, high density, low density, cleaning after each brew, etc..

There are a few folks on here that have brewed lots of batches with electric. What is the story?

I've used UHD, and also a very short ss 4500 watt heatstick. I don't get any scorching.

I now wonder if this is the reason why my low-volume production on the stove top ends up being darker than the calculators predict?

ULWD Camco 5500W here. When I recirc the mash with the element on I occasionally get a bit of scorching but never noticeable in the final beer. I don't brew that way much anymore.

I clean the element after every brew with either a plastic scrubby or tooth brush.

My brews consistently come out darker than what beersmith says but it's not from scorching. I think it's from the full volume mash leeching more colour from the grain.

Amazon from a place that ships to Canada. I can dig it up if you need.

I got my 4 direct from amazon.com, shipping was a bit high but wasn't too bad if you bundled a few things

I use two 3000 watt elements in a 58L keg. I use them both at the same time until it starts to boil and I have to go down to one. I have never scorched my beer and I brew a lot of Blonde ales. I do clean them with barkeepers friends after every brew session.

Thanks everybody, it seems like the scorching isn't all that common (though there are def people that experiance it). Since I'm only going with one element I'll just splurge and get it from Amazon.com.

Cheers

IIRC, Nash turns on his elements full blast at the RB. Density is different with every style of course....
