Imperial Russian Stout

Post by glassgiant » Fri Jun 07, 2013 9:31 pm

I'm looking to do a stout next. I figure I'd try the Imperial Russian Stout from NG. Anyone have any notes/opinions on this one? Or know of another good stout?
Bottled: Silly Yak gluten free, Mexican Cerveza, Dave's Russian Imperial Stout
Fermenting: Dave's Belgian Wit
Next Up: A lager, I think

I made the NG St.Pattys Day stout. Turned out great. Didn't make the RIS.

I am picking up the grain from Dave today(Everwood) to brew up his RIS.
Looks like an awesome recipe.

I heard the St. Paddy's was good, but I don't think they're selling it now. Is Dave's RIS an all grain recipe? I haven't made the leap to all grain yet.

It is all grain, but maybe you can get it as a partial. I would ask him via his website.
The NG st. Pattys day stout was very good. If they have the recipe, I'm sure they would put it together for you.

Here's what Dave has for 5gal extract kits: http://www.everwoodavebrewshop.com/cate ... 5-gallons/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
No Russian Imperial Stout on the list, though there are a couple of Stouts.
HOWEVER, and this is the coolest!, there's this: http://www.everwoodavebrewshop.com/prod ... -5-gallon/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you send him an email with what you're looking for, he can make a kit for you, exactly to your specifications. That's dedication!
Don't forget that he has a Brewnosers discount set up for us. Or, tell him chalmers sent you (though he may ADD 5% to the order in that case).

I'm sure dave could set you up with something. He's located right in our neck of the woods. Have you had RIS? The couple I've had have been seriously robust big beers.

Yeah, Dave doesn't have a ris listed, but he's making me a kit based on his recipe. He's pretty awesome.

NG RIS is excellent! Mine has been bottle conditioning since January. On my next batch I'll throw in some oak chips. Kit is $49.99 minus the brewnoser discount. You can't go wrong with this one.

I will soon have an RIS on the website. As mentioned above I've already made one and it's a beast! a 5 gallon batch, 23 lbs of grain and 10.7% ABV!

It is pricey, but you're paying for that extra grain and deliciousness!

The all-grain version is 43.99 and 54.99 for the extract version. The extract version is a bit more cause of the 16 lbs of extract required for the kit. If you register I can also find a 10% discount code for you. Plus I'm just down the Road from you, much closer too so you save gas. The savings are out of control!

:lol: I may have had to much coffee this morning! :lol:

Anyway, send me a note and I'll hook ya up.

Thanks
Dave

Hi all,
Thanks very much for the advice. I've had RIS before, and remember it being awesome (not sure which one). I'll give Dave's a try.
