Topping Up Existing Keg Filled With Festa Dry
Good Day All,
Two weeks ago I kegged 48L of Festa Brew Dry into my 56L sanke keg. This was my first attempt at Festa Brew Dry and really enjoy it. It is no different than going to the local watering hole and ordering a Coors Light draught. This has now become my brew of choice.
As such I have put on another 48L. It is currently in the secondary fermenters until next weekend. Once it is ready I should have enough room in the existing keg to top it up to the full 56L mark. Is there any issues with topping up an existing keg that already has beer in it and then re-force carbonating the beer mixture? Obviosuly it will not be cleaned out or sanitized as there will still be beer in it. I still have another 3 X 30L kegs that I can use once they are cleaned and sanitized, however if I can top up my existing one it will certainly make life much easier.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Cheers
Chris

You can probably get away with that for a while (how long that is mostly depending on sanitation), but eventually, you will trash a keg of beer. Just a roll of the dice when that occurs...

Thanks Mr X,
My intent is only to top up this one time. I'm going to go and get another 4 X 23L and start those right away, and then fill my 3 X 30L kegs. Yes I'll lose 2L but I'm OK with that. This top up is to hold me over until I can get the next 4 batches made.
Cheers

Don't do that! No need to lose 2 liters. Bottle it. I generally keg rather than bottling, but there are always times you need a bottle. So I always try to make more than I can keg, and then bottle the remainder.vansrv7a wrote:Thanks Mr X,

Those cooper carb tabs are great for those extra bottles.derek wrote:Don't do that! No need to lose 2 liters. Bottle it. I've never heard of those. The intent is obvious, but googling both "cooper carb tab" and "cooper carb drops" gets a whole lot of discussion but not a single site selling them. Please post a link!ethier.sc wrote: Those cooper carb tabs are great for those extra bottles.
Ah. I've found: https://store.coopers.com.au/shop/product/DCD626/ - which says nothing at all about them. Placebos?

I've seen those at NG in both Lower Sackville and Burnside as well.

I use those for carbing extra bottles after kegging. They work great. If you can't find them locally, you can purchase them from Jason at Beegrains. That is where I purchase mine from. http://beergrains.com/store/#!/~/produc ... id=9364181" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But they look like they're just sugar pills (which is why I said "placebos"). Pour in 5ml (I hope that's the right amount - I haven't done that for so long, I can't remember) of sugar and get the same result...

That's exactly what they are. I think they are 3/4 Sucrose and 1/4 glucose. That would make them a mix of table sugar and dextrose... right?derek wrote:

Re: Topping Up Existing Keg Filled With Festa Dry
If you prime your kegs you can mix the sugar into the beer first then any extra you can put in bottles. Simple. The first pour will be yeasty, but it should clear up after that assuming you don't live on a boat.
