yeast left at room temp

Post by lmo506 » Tue Dec 25, 2012 9:40 am

Hi folks,
I'm new to the forum and new to brewing after a 30 year absence. I ordered up a couple kits and had them sent to my cousins place because i work in Ft.Mac and I wanted to brew right after xmas. I called him and explained to dig around , find the yeast and put it in the fridge. Fast forward to a couple days ago. I go get the stuff and he said he couldn't find any yeast.(duh) so anyways the wyeast smack packs have been in room temp for over a week. Should i garbage them? make a starter and see if they live , but if i make a starter and it works i'm afraid I might get off flavour and some nasty shit. :barf2:
Thanks Folks
happy hoidays

They should be fine. Make a starter. I can't see the flavour being off because of being at room temp for a bit. Merry Christmas, and welcome!
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:
