Anyone know if it's a regularly stocked item in Clayton Park? I'm looking to get some for my brew tomorrow morning. I'll hold off on brewing if they have it, otherwise I'm going to start when I wake up.

Calcium Chloride = Pickle Crisp from CT / Walmart (maybe Sobeys & SS but I haven't actually seen it there).
Magnesium Sulphate = Epsom Salts. I get that in 4kg handle tubs for about $10. You can get smaller if you want. I also use it for my plants and my daughter's bath. Don't get the scented kind, lol.

SS usually carries it in the spice/baking aisle near the mason jars.

I'm pretty sure that's the stuff I've been using, but I bought it quite a while back...

Neither is chlorine but it is used in our water supply.

I don`t think that the amount you would use would hurt anything. ;)

It's fine just don't give it head! Seriously though they just don't want you eating it with a spoon.

Sent from the brew timer.

Did you find the Pickle Crisp? CT on Quinpool is supposed to have it in stock according to the website.

Epsom Salts will give you the shits in high enough concentrations - that's maybe where the warning comes from. FWIW, I never add MgSO4 to my beer - there's enough Mg in our water as it is for yeast.

Here's a good word of warning... if you do buy the pickle crisp at CT, make sure you get the right thing! Most of you may not be as stupid as myself, but I was in a hurry, grabbed the only thing on the shelf that said make your pickles crunchier. Took it home, was about to open it up and toss it in my CaCl jar when Gavin said might as well leave it sealed until we need it. Then I read the label...

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/8 ... ?locale=en

Dill Pickle Mix... hahahaha. It would have been pretty funny to take a beer made with that in it to a BJCP study session though... "is that... garlic..?"

I almost bought one of those at Walmart yesterday. I picked up it thinking, "I won't have to buy CaCl for years!".

:stupid:
