It may be better to enlist a welder into the Brewnoser club. I know some welders, one of which will probably work for homebrew as long as it's not too much work all at once.

My buddy would probably work for beer too, although he said SS is a PITA to deal with so maybe not. I'll ask anyways. I've been trying to get him to join up for some time regardless.

I've heard SS is finicky too, especially food grade so it doesn't rust out. Usually involves TIG welding which generally requires greater skill and can get into quite pricey gear.
I'll check with my contacts for beer appreciative welders.

Re: Should we buy a welder?
Doesn't have to be. Almost everything we do at the mill is stick and ss, and it's not bad at all. I'd have no issue using stick.

Stick can do a good job, bbbbbbbuuuuutttttt requires a lot of experience/practice. Mig would be the easiest to teach. A good 220V MIG would do most everything homebrewers need. I use .035" stainless in my mig, but find it is underpowered. Also requires Argon Gas.

It was that big but that made me think of spatter. I used to do a bit of welding when I was younger and I've seen what inexperience and stick welding leads to.

Anyone know a welder on PEI? We've got a some pretty ridiculously high quotes on what seem to be pretty basic welding jobs.
