Bottling bombers
Anyone have trouble bottling 500ml or 650 ml bombers? I find I often can't get a good seal using the supposedly dual use caps available at NG. I have way more trouble with the 500ml vs the 650ml bottles too.

Most of the time I bottle 500 mL bottles and dual use caps. I haven't had a problem with seals yet. What kind of capper do you use? I've been using this one:

I use the gold color caps from NG when bottling the 500's and 650's. I had a problem years back with the silver colored ones on the 500ml Fullers bottles.pet lion wrote:Anyone have trouble bottling 500ml or 650 ml bombers? I have pretty good luck at NSLC, save the propeller ones. The cheep option, for i just have to buy the beer and get the bottle for the deposit price!!, and no mice in them at all for some reasonpet lion wrote:Anyone have trouble bottling 500ml or 650 ml bombers? I have a Ferrari bench capper similar to what CartoonCod posted. The strange part is the 650 ml bottles seem to go on fine most of the time and have the same lip shape/size but the 500ml bottles (whether the broader short ones or the taller narrower ones) seem to go on a bit crooked and often don't seal completely.

The other thing I found is that with the 500ml Fullers bottles, the Ferrari capper doesn't have a setting that fits the bottle great - one is too short and the other just too tall. I use a small piece of 1x8 pine under the bottle and they cap great every time. Both Garrison and Propeller 500ml bottles don't give me any issues.pet lion wrote:I have a Ferrari bench capper similar to what CartoonCod posted. The other thing I do is hold the crown on the bottle to keep it straight. I don't rely on the magnet in the capper to hold the crown steady.

Good tips. I'll try them on the next bottling.LeafMan66_67 wrote:The other thing I found is that with the 500ml Fullers bottles, the Ferrari capper doesn't have a setting that fits the bottle great - one is too short and the othe rjust too tall.
