What's the difference here? I know carared is more like 15- 20 L and carastan 30 - 30 L. Does carared offer anything that light crystal does not?
I'm planning an ESB, so I'll probably go with the carastan for the toffee/toasty notes. Unless someone can convince me that carared offers something I can't get in another malt, it is doubtful I will ever order it again.

I've not used it myself, but I would think that Carastan would be just as, if not more appropriate in an ESB.

Yeah, that's what I have in the recipe right now. Just trying to figure out what the point of carared is... just seems to be c15-c20

From a quick look, just seems to be a brand name more than anything.

I believe it's weyermann's line of personalized malts. I hate that shit.

I think it's the forerunner to micromalting. Sucks for consistency, but it might be the future of the malt trade.

I'll post the recipe I have tonight when I get home for critique. Wondering if carastan & victory might be too much...

I put Biscuit/Victory/Amber and Carastan in my ESB and they work beautifully together - nice bread and toffee flavours. Each makes up about 5.5% of the grist.
