Designed and built in an hour or so.

Any thoughts on this guys? If I was to build another one, what should I modify?

The 2 pipes going up are the inlet and outlet. They don't have connectors on them yet. ;)

Looks good. Nice bends.

Mine looks like it was made by a racoon.

I'll look and see if I have 3/8 to hose fittings.

Thanks for your help, but I'll pass... I'm a couple of hundreds km from the Atlantic (sshhh! Don't tell anyone!) :)

Liam, I got it at Canac in Quebec.

They sell copper for 1$/ft but you can buy the complete 50' coil for 40$.

Cheap copper all right.

Not sure if you need all that in 3/8 copper. Not sure if the last few feet will do much cooling, but it certainly won't hurt.
BTW, neat job bending that.

Dirt Chicken, I wished they enter 1x 1' @ 1$... didn't happen! ;)

Tony, that was one of my concern. It probably depends on the temperature of the water going in. If it's way under the wort temp, I guess it will be more efficient at the beginning.

I probably have a couple of feet too many for straight tap water, but if I cool it in ice, the extra feet will help. My 2 cents. Maybe I'm way in the left field on this one. ;)

My guess is that it would be great anyway. I have a long 3/8 one also .... not quite 40 ft.. and am wishing for a 1/2 inch one. More surface area = more cooling potential, all thing being equal.

I tried it and it worked well. Didn't note how fast it chilled my wort, I'll do it next time!
