Huge brewday / weekend

Hey all, I'm planning a big brew weekend this weekend. I would like to end with 4 batches of beer. Saturday sleepyjamie is coming over and we're going to do at least 2 10 gallon batches. If we only get 2 done on Sat I may do another 1 or 2 on Sunday, starting with the RIS barrel brew. If anyone want to come over to hang out or help brew, or even get a batch going outside, that's cool, just send me a message and I'll give you directions.

Saturday we're doing this insane DIPA that Jamie made up. Over 2 pounds of hops for the 10 gal batch!!! Also in the works is an Octoberfest / "Hoptoberfest". Basically a hopped up Octoberfest (40-50 IBU) - I hope it works out as I'd like to bring it to Hoptoberfest. The other brews on deck are my porter and the RIS.

I'm doing some plumbing tonight, hooking up a tap by my rig and a water filter (1 micron, carbon) that will remove the chlorine and then some. I'll also be doing water additions for the first time; Got some gypsum, calcium chloride, chalk, and epsom salts.

My ferm chamber only has room for 2 carboys and the ambient temp down there is close to 20 degrees. I'm trying to rig up my cold room with an A/C unit but I haven't landed a used one yet. I may have to bite the bullet and buy a new one for like $110 tax in. The area will hold many carboys though so there's room for guests.

Now I have some work to do...

-Rob

That sounds like a blast. I`d love to check it out (and your pepper garden), but I`m back to NG Saturday.

That's cool, some other time then. I have to take some pepper porn shots soon, they're looking awesome.

I forgot to mention this will be my first time using pure oxygen aeration. Woot!

60% mash efficiency, recovered from a comedy of errors.

The weight of the grain bent the false bottom. It's decent gauge too.

Epic brew day. Definately the hardest one I've ever had. 16Kg of grain, pushed the brew kettle to the limit, 875 grams of hops, all bagged. It was in-fucking-sane. My mash temps were all over the place due to brain farts and a bit of messing around with the PID controller. We mashed for a full 2 hours trying to get everything out of it.

Lifting the bag out was a two man job, so was pulling the hop bags. 2+ pounds of hops suck up a lot of wort too but we squeezed a bunch out. The drained and squeezed grains weighed 50 lbs. I was sweating my ass off and burning the shit out of my hands (wearing rubber gloves).

We definitely pushed this rig to the limits and took our time doing it. After we mashed in Andrew went home, brewed a batch there, finished, and came back as we were filling the fermentors.

This was my first time filtering the water, doing mineral additions, and aerating with (pure) O2. We got two carboys with 5.5+ gallons at 1.070. If this beer finishes at 1.014 that's 7.4%

I'm so beat... I'll probably brew the RIS first thing in the morning though.

I like the "S" hook addition to the bag.

Yes, that was the most grain I've ever seen mashed before, the and most hops.
