Replacing inside panel of mini fridge door?

Anyone know if this needs to be done if you've removed the one that comes on the fridge? I did it on my kegerator, mostly for aesthetic purposes, but don't care about my new fermentation fridge. I just don't want to leave the foam exposed if it's something that would deteriorate from moisture, or something along those lines.

I think it would harbor bacteria very easily. Probably worth the effort of covering it up. Doesn't it also help hold the door seal on?

Yeah but I actually just cut the original panel off, leaving the outer part that holds the seal on in place.

i say put something in (i used spare sheet of particle board or something) solely for aesthetic reasons - sharp plastic edges where you cut it might be nice to hide too. i doubt the moisture will matter too much, but im not sure.

We used to cut them off basically the same way you did Jimmy. Then cut a piece of fiberglass fiberboard to fit over the whole door, install with the outer ring and seal of the original. Looks factory; neat, clean and shiny :cheers2:

I always get a sheet of aluminum sheared to fit. You can go to the siding place on simmonds drive in burnside and get any color they sell. Looks super clean and professional.

Plexyglass is easy to cut.

How big of a piece?

that sounds like it would look great. how much does a door-sized sheet cost?

Plexiglass is kind of expensive but would work.

I actually bought a plastic covering for a fluorescent light bay cover (look up in an office building). They're like $5 at home depot or something.

Pretty brittle, but I was able to score with an sharp blade and snap to size. If you pre-drill your holes and are gentle, it wont crack.

I do like this aluminum idea, though - I'd upgrade mine to that if the price was right.

If I recall correctly, around $30
