Efficiency was a bit better, but the times savings were great.

What's making it quicker for you? I thought you batch spared, which would only take 10 min.

I was doing double batch sparges. Which means double fills, double vorlauf, etc. Takes time, more than I thought.

Is that a ss screen your dropping it onto? I never thought it should take as long as some guys say (1hr) as long as you had good flow. Glad to hear it's working for you and saving time. How long does it take you to drain the whole works?

No, that's a square tupperware lid, circa 1976. I do plan to upgrade to something better. I didn't time it, but I know from usual brews, i was done much faster when i looked at the clock. I'll time it next time.

This is all we ever do, I find it works better with my system. We generally mash for 45 min - 1 hr; recirc for 15 min. Depending on the beer, we can be starting our transfer anywhere from 1hr to 1.25hrs after mashing in. Now with the pump and a bit coarser crush, we can transfer over completely in 15 min. max with a consistent 80% efficiency on 10 gal.

Cool, I may try this. I've got a copper manifold that I used to use in my mashtun, I'm thinking I can run the water through this to create a distributed flow.

I just use a piece of silicone hose coming out of the pump coiled in the top of the mash bed for recirc, similar to the electricbrewery.com guys. At this point, we are pouring our mash out water in the top by hand. I have a sabco false bottom with a bottom drain.
