Brewnosers Stickers and Business Cards

Post by chalmers » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:47 am

As most of you have seen in the teaser picture from GAM, we have some Brewnosers stickers. We did a small run of these to gauge interest, but from the sounds of it, we'll need more right away.

Some of you have also seen and/or picked up some business cards at some of the get togethers. We've got two styles of these, though one of them has a small flaw in the printing (but not enough to take away from the design).

I will bring the stickers to the grain pickup/brunch Saturday, and people can buy them then. The price will be $3/sticker, and depending on the interest, we'll limit this to 1 or 2 per person to spread them far and wide. But we'll order more now to have for the next event. The business cards will be there as well, and to recooperate the costs, will be $1 for 10 cards, or maybe we'll just make them free. Give them to your wife/girlfriend so she thinks we're a legitimate organization, leave them at the NSLC checkout, etc. :)

If you're not able to make the pickup, fear not, we will have more in soon!

Thanks to JeffSmith for organizing these (the logo and the printing).

I would buy stickers and cards.

A friend of mine used the card to identify her self as a Noser at NG.

Is she a Brewnoser?

In my opinion (which is worth exactly $0.00), this sort of thing is not what the cards are for, I don't think the NG guys will be too thrilled with us if we are giving away/selling cards that people are using to say they are part of a group that they might not be. Of course, once the cards are out in the wild, we have no control over what happens to them, nor should we.

This might be the push that the NG folks need to come up with a workable solution to the BN discount.

She is a brewer and lurks. I did not tell her to do what she did.

I gave her a card to intice her to join the board. She feels intimidated by the knowlage and tech terms.

I had set her up with a deal on Festabrew at NG and she used the card and my name to identify her self.

I will send an e-mail letting her know the proper usage of the card.

Maybe it's time we came up with a concerted effort to work out what will/can work at our end and pitch it to them. If we continue kicking this can down the road, they might come up with a 'workable solution' of 0%. There really is no 'proper usage' of the card from what I can see.

Oh no, like I said, we've got no control over what happens with the cards once they leave our hands, so I'm fine with that. Just thinking "out loud" with respect to the NG folks and what will happen next.
I'm going to start leaving these cards at suitable beer places I visit to bring more folks to the boards.

I told her to join the board, take part and use the card at NG or don't.

We've suggested giving them names/numbers of people in the group, suggested maybe they could reward their biggest/most loyal customers (BN or not) with a discount, suggested cards to identify members (we could something like laminating them or putting a special sticker/seal on "real" members' cards*), etc, but have not heard back. If you've got suggestions, let's think about it, and talk it over on Saturday @ the grain pickup or brunch.

I think those ideas are fine. IIRC, ratchet had access to hologram stickers that would work well. I get confused where things stand with Steve's post about 4square, et. al. If we've pitched ideas, and they die at his end, there isn't much more anyone can do. The 'real member' debate is something that requires beer, lol. Saturday.

Did we decide on a location yet?

The 4square tip was erased months before Steve's post (when he had told me in person that it was an issue, it was taken down quickly).

That's why I'm confused. We seemed to have made an inroad on do's and dont's, and then NG goes back in time to something that we had corrected, like we're still at square one.

I agree with X. If we don't get any concrete feedback from Steve on their preference for identifying those that "should" be receiving the discount, it's probably best that we save our money and not put anything together just yet. It would be a shame if the discount/partnership went the way of the dodo, but it kind of seems like that may be the direction that things are heading.

If you start leaving those cards everyone and gathering more people on the fourms NG is not going to be happy giving a discount to whoever is a brewnoser. I think Jayme's solution is the only one that would work but I agree with X that we are probably headed to a 0% discount.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Seems that way. But I don't think anyone on here wants to stop new people from joining the forum. Do we "advertize" by dropping cards in places people who appreciate good beer might see them, or just let people find us the old fashioned way (Google or friends)? Either way, our numbers will continue to grow.

I definitely think the cards should be tossed around. But I also think the hologram sticker idea for a BN discount is the most viable option for discount identification.

I'm not discouraging our expansion at all, I'm all for it. I'm just saying that looking at it through NG eyes it's a different story. This isn't up to us to figure out, it's up to NG.

Oh yes, I agree it's their decision, but it might help if we took initiative and said 'look at this scenario' and get it done. Left completely to NG, at this rate of progress, I'm not hopeful. It's not a complex scenario to me, members with hologram designated cards get a BN discount. Others are left to NG's discretion.

Totally agree. Just would be good to get a definite yes or no from NG before we go to the trouble.

I don't make it to Halifax too often, but would love to purchase a few stickers and a bunch of business cards. Would it be possible to have them mailed to me and I would pay for all shipping costs?

I see the best use of the cards to be leaving them at places like Noble Grape to thelp them direct more people to the club. Of course this undermines the future of the discount, but I'd rather have the club stay young and vibrant than have the discount and become a lonely old brewer.
