I am in need of a brewing pump.

What are my best options for model and price?

Does anyone have one available?

I bough a March pump from here around Christmas - worth every penny.

I know you should not covet thy neighbors march pump but man did it do away with all the parts of the hobby I don't like during our group brew. Definitely high on my want list.

Have been looking at pumps lately as well, Farmhouse has Chugger pumps in stock and ships usps. Even with shipping I suspect it will be cheaper than from Hopdawgs.

I have the centre inlet march from ihomebrewing as well. I have tested it but haven't brewed on it yet. I'd be tempted to get one of the cheap greatbreweh.com pumps.

I'm tempted by those as well, especially since they're now taking preorders for pumps with stainless inlet/outlets. I know a guy in Moncton has got one of these recently, I'm just waiting to hear back from him about how well they work.

Cool, it will be interesting to hear the reports on those as people start using them. The videos they posted seem to showcase them pretty good too.

That's a pretty good price. Some people require or prefer the thick walled tubing which is less prone to kinks and a bit stronger (not that that should be an issue). Thick walled will cost you $3 / ft from Hopdawg's which is your best bet elsewhere. You can find the thick walled cheaper from the US but then have other things to worry about.

As far as the type of tubing I would definitely stick with high temp silicone.

No, no, no! I'm familiar with that commandment, and it says you can't covet his wife, his servants, his ox or his ass, and it does say "or anything that belongs to your neighbour", but really possession is nine tenths of the law, and does it really "belong" to him once you've "borrowed" it?

Agreed, and I'd add that the thick walled stuff is a good investment unless you're doing straight runs with the hose. The thinner stuff will kink like crazy with hot wort running through it and ends up being a general pain in the ass.

How much would we save by group buying? I am interested but am curious about if its worth going the cheaper route (as I am sure most here are).

Hopdawgs are now carrying chugger pumps in Canada, but they are $30 more than ordering direct. Might work out to be the same when you add shipping.

Do you mean savings vs non-group buy of the greatbreweh pumps or vs the March style pumps? The March style pumps are $169 at the retailers I found in Canada. I was able to find the chugger pumps in the US for $ 139 plus USPS shipping but I am quite sure the chugger pumps are made in China so there may be duty due on import

I have not confirmed it but I do not believe chuggerpumps.com will ship to Canada. Canada is not a supported destination on their order form and through Facebook they have said Canadians should order from hopdawgs.ca

Just FYI and YMMV but I personally decided against buying a Chugger because there are too many reports of people having their pump seize up while recirculating boiling wort. It's not clear if they fixed the problem yet or not. I didn't want the hassle of sending one back (to US or Canada even) and forth. Also, I'm surprised Hopdawg's is charging the same price as the March considering the Chugger is cheaper than the March everywhere else. The guy's profit margin may have been eroded importing the things though.

FWIW, I got a great deal on a brass head march pump at Burt Process in the states.

According to their catalogue $127 809-PL and $155 809-BR-C(entre). Another interesting thing I found when perusing the catalogue is Beer has a no effect on PPS (Ryton) only below 120F (48C), now I know beer is not wort but it does raise questions.

We have a chugger pump and are extreemly happy with it so far. As with any of these, it is finnicky if it starts sucking air but once I tightened up my fittings, it was bulletproof.
I would be interested in a group buy of thick walled silicone tubing aswell. Once mine get hot, they kink pretty badly!
