Do it.

My first (now HLT) is aluminum. I seasoned it first by boiling water in it until there was a grey oxide coating inside though.

There's some reason that you shouldn't use aluminum; I just can't remember it now.

:problem: What were we talking about?

Isn't oxidation? But I think it's only an issue if you expose it to chemicals like oxiclean.. I'm not too sure on that though.

i use one. it's not as pretty as stainless and when i get a new one it will be stainless, but it's certainly doing the trick for now. way cheaper than other options

I still use a 7.5 gallon turkey fryer that came with a propane burner. It works, although it's tougher to clean than stainless steel.

So is there any actual evidence that using an aluminum pot for brewing would cause problems..such as memory loss?

No, aluminum is a marker of alzheimer's, not a cause...IIRC, lol.

We use an aluminum pot, and I haven't read anything suggesting you shouldn't... yet.

As a side note, if you're looking for a big pot for a decent price, check out Big Eric's Restaurant Supplies on Lady Hammond Rd in Halifax. That place is full of interesting stuff.

Something like that - I remember the original research, that suggested it _might_ be a cause, was disproven.

I recall reading (How to Brew I think?) that the amount of aluminum in a whole 5 gallon batch of beer made with a aluminum BK was less that you would get from a single antacid tablet.

They've let the aluminum theories die down a bit... now they're on to oral hygiene

I'd be worried about all the mercury and tin some people have in their teeth.
