Hey All,

I accidentally dumped a splash of "bulk pink" sanitizer into my 20L carboy after i found it had overflowed a bit due to active fermentation.

Image

is my batch totally ruined? is it safe to drink? from what i read online it seems like it'll probably be fine, but i just starting fermenting it saturday, so it'll be another 2-3 weeks until i actually try it probably. is it worth it to wait it our or should i just trash it and try again this weekend?

i've also read that i should just use vodka in my airlocks to prevent this from happening, which i will do from now on haha.

thanks!

Josh

To be clear - you were using this in your airlock? I would definitely switch to starsan, vodka, or even just some boiled water.

It might be fine, depending on how much a "splash" is. I'm very sensitive to the taste of chlorine, but you won't know until you taste it if you'll be able to pick it up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah starsan is a great product for airlocks. If you do start using starsan for the first time be aware that putting the bottle down on your countertops may cause permanent damage, it's an extremely corrosive acid before being dilouted. I didn't figure that out until I had damage in three areas of my counter

Did Donald Trump advise you add the chlorinated sanitizer to the brew to cure an infection?
