malting barley

Post by BrewMachine » Fri Feb 07, 2020 12:13 am

I'm interested in malting my own barley. Does anyone know a good source? I know where to get horse feed but would prefer something of higher quality if possible.
I found the thread here posted by a gentleman from Yarmouth who was doing this years ago. Seems like this could be fun.

Just an update. I've grabbed a bag of feed barley and malted it. I'm working on finding a recipe to brew. I' might brew a low alcohol Dark Mild recipe that I've brewed many times from "Brewing Classic Styles". My goal here is not necessarily to compare it to other base malts but to see if I can use it to successfully recreate a beer I've already enjoyed. I've been taking notes and photos and will eventually describe the process a little better if anyone is interested.
