Kegged Vodka Soda Water mix

With the popularity of canned soda water hard liquor drinks increasing I decided to make a keg of hard soda water. I was thinking I'd soak the rinds of limes, lemons, and grapefruit in vodka, then add that tincture to a keg of 5% abv vodka water mix, then carbonate.

Has anyone tried this yet? Recipes that people have tried and liked I would be interested in. I'd like to make something similar to the Blue Lobster vodka lime canned products.

I'll keep you all updated on how it goes if no one has given it a go yet.

My procedure I plan to follow is so far:

1. prepare the flavour extract - rind 4 limes, 1 lemon, 1 grapefruit, soak in vodka, wait 2-3 days, strain

2. prepare keg of 5% abv soda water

3. dial in the flavour extract till I enjoy the taste.

I considered preparing the lime, lemon and grapefruit extracts as three separate tinctures but to be honest I'm probably too lazy to taste the keg a million times. Might do it that way though

Suggestion, combine all flavours and knock it down to your final ABV, taste it, adjust sugar level and ratio of ingredients at that time. The CO2 will tend to dry it out, you may want to aim 5 to 10% high on the sugar. Your ingredients have no sugar at all, therefore back sweeten with something otherwise you'll end up with pure carbonated citrus acid in water.

I'm just going to make vodka soda, no sugar. That's what those new cans are that people like.

I think you'll be fine without the sugar --- the no-sugar-added premixed drinks were up in NSLC sales by around 800% this past year, I don't think you'll have any problem there

I guess you've never made a vodka soda cocktail :) it's not about the sugar

This has me a bit intrigued. I've been thinking about making a ginger/lime tincture for this sort of thing.

Nope, but have been known to do a few concoctions over the last 19 years of my commercial wine/distilling career.

Not judging, trying to assist, that is all.

How did this go? I’ve been making the cheepo version all summer with blue menu sparking water, all different flavours. 2oz of water out of the can, 2oz of vodka back in and you got a nice inconspicuous, refreshing 6% vodka and soda that doesn’t cost $18/6pack

I had it for the first time last night, it was very refreshing. I did 9 little lemons (the kind you get together in a bag) and 3 limes. I think I'd probably increase the amount of lemons/limes next time or maybe let them sit in teh vodka for more than 24h but it's a nice flavour as is too.
