If that's the case you must let us all in on what it is.mr x wrote:Bumping this topic from the real world into the virtual world....
I am thinking it's a "group buy" on barrels from http://www.glenoradistillery.comKMcK wrote:If that's the case you must let us all in on what it is.mr x wrote:Bumping this topic from the real world into the virtual world....
I thought I was sitting right beside you when Johnny Mac, X, & KeggerMeister (I think) talked about this at Nash's birthday party. Maybe you were just there in my imagination. There was a substantial quantity of high-proof beer (except for that accidental "Keith's Harvest").KMcK wrote:If that's the case you must let us all in on what it is.mr x wrote:Bumping this topic from the real world into the virtual world....
It's sounding familiar now that people describe it. I guess I should have clued in to the fact that X called it 'The barrel project' and not 'A barrel project'.derek wrote:I thought I was sitting right beside you when Johnny Mac, X, & KeggerMeister (I think) talked about this at Nash's birthday party. That's the plan. A few of us (X, Chalmers, Nick, Me, etc) had discussed this a while back, getting our hands on a fresh whisky barrel and doing a collaboration brew. All involved would brew 10 gallons to the same recipe at home and then fill up the barrel.Tim Gregory wrote:I think the idea was any interested chips in towards 1 barrel, then we all brew up a barleywine or something and put it in the barrel for a while, then divvy up the beer later. I might be wrong though?
I'd do 5 gallons. I don't have the capacity to do 10 gals unless I brew twice.GAM wrote:Anyone in to split 5gal each?

I think the best way to proceed is first finding out what Glenora can provide, then guage interest from the whole group and determine what the batch sizes could/should be based on that.
You can brew on my system if you wish.Tim Gregory wrote:I'd do 5 gallons. I don't have the capacity to do 10 gals unless I brew twice.GAM wrote:Anyone in to split 5gal each?

I could be talked into this, but we need more then the three of us marsh-dwellers. I'm not sure I would know what to do with 20 gallons of barley wine each. Even 10 seems like a lot of wood aged beer. I would also be interested in a wine, or a port, barrel over a scotch barrel. The only beers I have had aged in scotch barrels end up tasting like watered down scotch. A good Canadian whiskey barrel might be nice too. 40 creek makes a damn fine spirit and if they are selling I could pick it up in December when I am in the area.akr71 wrote:JohnnyMac wrote:It's not out of the question to have 5 galloners participate. It would be interesting to know the price of the barrels - maybe us marsh-dwellers can do one too.
