Mashing in a hail Mary exchange beer. My buddy and I made a cherry saison that just isn't up to par. American strong ale with Voss, Centennial and Simcoe. This is a slight variation on the famous Arrogant Bastard. Fingers crossed.

Sounds awesome! Bummer about the saison, that sounded delish! What was the issue?

I'm thinking the over complicated recipe didn't help. It was my friends first brew and he wanted to include everything under the sun. We used small amounts of Hibiscus, lemon and orange peel along with dark sweet cherries in secondary. My volumes were low due to lack of experience brewing a double batch, thus causing the bitterness to be too much. I feel like the saison character is burried, but no one flavor jumps out. I have a nasty cold right now, so I might not be the best judge but...... I kinda get a orange juice after brushing my teeth kinda vibe. Could be a fermentation issue as well , because the other half of the batch minus the cherries and a different saison yeast is not bad at all.

Ya I had a similar experience with a Dark Saison I brewed with some cranberries a few years back for the Advent Calendar, I found the the saison character was lost amongst the roasted malt and fruit even though I used WLP565. Since then all my saisons have been relatively straight forward to let the yeast shine. Hope the next beer turns out, it sounds delish!
