adding gelatin in secondary?

Post by CorneliusAlphonse » Tue Sep 20, 2011 5:11 pm

hey all

i brewed an oktoberfest ale at the end of august, and I'm hoping it will be good by thanksgiving weekend. i've never done anything to make my beer clear, but this is also the first batch of all grain that is going well (first one was not so successful).

would it benefit from putting it into a new carboy with gelatin for a week? thoughts?

see you all saturday! :cheers2:
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

I'd try it without the gelatin. I bet the racking action drops out lots of particulate. I've done the gelatin thing before, but gave up. Waste of time to remove room temperature haze when I have perpetual chill haze, lol. Although I do have some biofine that I am going to try on certain beers.

See you Saturday!

Have you tried polyclar? It's supposed to remove chill haze. Gelatin only removes yeast and other solids suspended as far as I know.

No, haven't tried polyclar. I'm not sure what's in the biofine, but I had heard it was good stuff, and it seemed to work very good on at least one Nash beer I had at the H&T.
