Haha. Good one. Going for a clean ferment on this. It's my favourite brew. The keg never lasts very long.BBrianBoogie wrote:Surprised Randy gave up his recipe

Washing kegs and starting work on the "picnic box". Not sure what's more work. Haha.

Re: Random brewing pics

Sooooo combined some apricot purée with a Festa brew wheat ale kit.
Result: primary fermentation version of a foam belching cookie monster. It just needs the googly eyes...

Re: Random brewing pics
My wife has requested the same combination and I'm more than happy to try it out. How long did you wait before you added the puree? Hoping to avoid that if possibleBarker wrote:

Re: Random brewing pics
I usually wait a 5-7 days (when vigorous fermentation is slowing) before racking into a secondary with the puree or fruit.

Re: Random brewing pics
Derek, do you stir in the puree or just dump the fruit in? I haven't experimented with it but it sounds good for a summer drink.

I dump the puree or fruit into the secondary and then rack on top of it. I don't stir - you want to rack with as little agitation as possible to avoid adding oxygen into the mix.Halifax_Jeff wrote:Derek, do you stir in the puree or just dump the fruit in? Re: Random brewing pics
I tried this with a raspberry wheat ale a couple years back (using the same puree brand) and mine ended up blowing out through the airlock and making a foamy pink mess everywhere. Less mess than my current predicament though...LeafMan66_67 wrote:I usually wait a 5-7 days (when vigorous fermentation is slowing) before racking into a secondary with the puree or fruit.
Next time I'm going to go with a blow off tube setup.

Re: Random brewing pics
I'm guessing that the difference is that I'm doing a 20L batch and have a bit extra headroom in the carboy for the second fermentation that it usually goes through. Blowoff tube is a good idea.
