I say brewers choice. Like a good meal for company I'd like to decide last minute or go with a beer I'm really happy with. Can't have the Brewnosers drinking the shitty stuff. lol

Jeff (jmacdonald) I added you to 4.
I've also updated the poll on the original post on how to select the style.

Based on the votes so far it's looking to be Brewers Choice.

Re: 2014 Brew Nosers Advent Calendar?!
I voted for secret santa just to be different.
But what I'd like to see is that we each pick a style and brew within that style just to avoid duplication. Also, I think everyone should provide at least one comment for each beer. Personally I want to get better as a brewer and if you think my beer is shit then I want to know, and I want to know why. I highly doubt anyone will be malicious, but feedback is a great way to target areas that need working on.

I can see us getting multiples of the same style, but what is great is you get the brewers personal touch. I also like the comment idea. Do we post it in a thread, or do we send privately? Lots to be discussed over the next year that is forsure. Lots of details to be filled in.EverwoodAveBrewShop wrote:I voted for secret santa just to be different.

I agree somewhat with you Dave, although some duplication might not be bad. Maybe a cap to how many of each style can be made?
What if we set up a separate forum page/thread for comments on the beer? That way for those who want to see the comments can and those that don't, don't have to. Having everybody drink the same beer and talk about it is a big educational tool for inexperienced and experienced tasters alike.

I will take a spot, maybe toward the bottom. I think I could use the feedback - my friends are probably biased because I'm giving them free beer. I will have another year of brewing under my belt by then so I won't be so intimidated.

Re: 2014 Brew Nosers Advent Calendar?!
That puts you at #2 right next to me
I’m first up, so if anyone knocks my beer…they’re getting it when their day comes
(just joking)
If someone doesn't want their beer reviewed they could maybe put "review free" on the label.
There aren't many beers I like, that's why I took up brewing so I could try to make something I did. I was worried about reviewing beer, but I think I've found an out. Kathleen says she will help me there, and there aren't many she doesn't like.

I kind of thought the point of this was for the review aspect?GuingesRock wrote:If someone doesn't want their beer reviewed they could maybe put "review free" on the label.

The point is seasonal fun and sharing in the community, isn't it? The reviews may be an added bonus for some, but for others it might take the fun out of it altogether. I'd certainly rather that everyone just have fun with it and if that means that some of the beers I get are "review free", then that's fine by me.AllanMar wrote:I kind of thought the point of this was for the review aspect?

Re: 2014 Brew Nosers Advent Calendar?!
Perhaps like a group buy we could set it up that only those involved in the calendar can see the comments and we would have to request access to write and read reviews. Not sure if that's possible or if it would make anyone feel better. That way we can give feedback and hundreds of people don't see it. I like everyone else want constructive feedback to improve and can't see anyone getting malicious.

Re: 2014 Brew Nosers Advent Calendar?!
I didn't mean it in a malicious way, I just assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the feedback is why people were joining this sort of thing. If the goal is to just give beer away to Brewnosers, that should be easy enough any number of ways. I find its easy to give beer away, hard to get honest/constructive feedback.redoubt wrote:The point is seasonal fun and sharing in the community, isn't it? I'm not against a no feedback option, I just didn't think it would be necessary.

Re: 2014 Brew Nosers Advent Calendar?!
... I suspect, in any case, that since the comment/review part was in Kieth's OP about the advent beers that most people who've signed up will be okay with being reviewed and that there will be few if any "review free" beers included. Still, I don't think there's any harm in giving participating brewers an out if they didn't notice that part, are reluctant about it, or who change their minds about it over the year. Let's just have some fun with it.
For what it's worth, I'll chime in with support for an advent beer forum or thread that only partipants can access. Since I bet that would be a load of trouble for Jimmy and the others involved in site admin (X and chalmers?), at least only Brewnoser access would be nice if they can set that up for us when the time comes.

This is just a great way to try everyones beers, something meant for fun to add to the holidays. It's a bonus to get some feed back.
As a solution to this, users can ask to have the one of the following feedback options (no, private, public) we can notate it by their name. As I said there is some details to work out which we have plent of time to do. We want to make this a great experience for every brewer involved.

oh and all 24 spots are filled. PM me your style if you selected one already, I can update the list, and how you would prefer your feedback. (PM's is easier, it's rough sifting this thread lol)

Allan, sorry if I gave the impression I thought you meant it in a malicious way! I didn't take that away from your post at all! I also didn't mean to come off as combative, and I think I may have done...AllanMar wrote:I didn't mean it in a malicious way, I just assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the feedback is why people were joining this sort of thing. I'm in it for feedback, too, though I have to admit I'd have just as readily signed up for a sharing thing with no feedback. As an inexperienced brewer who'd like to become a damn good one, that kind of feedback is absolutely necessary! I just think there's some merit in giving others a way to opt out if they are or become reluctant about putting their beers up for review.

This is such a good idea. Is there some excuse to doing this in the summer as well? I would the love the feedback on my own beer, and getting to try 20+ other home brews is awesome too! I'm not too worried about sticking to a particular style, leave that for formal competitions.

I tried to send you a pm but ended up posting it. Can I have a keg cond. IPA with optional private reviews please. (People can pm me, but only if they feel like it). Thanks.
Great job on this BTW.
ps. I'm ok with shifting the date on this one to Christmas in July and setting up another one for next Christmas if people want to do that.

I'll update the style once someone drops it off. i'm sure i'm the same as most and don't know what we will produce. However your preference on the beer review can be updated anytime.
As for the summer event. I'd be up for a go of it if others were.
