We're all over the place on the late/flameout hops, as I've never really understood how the flavour is affected. We'll usually put 1-2 oz at flameout, but not much for late additions. I always figured that dry hops were best for flavour. Am I wrong?

Well, I don't do any late additions other than flameout - don't know if they'd be a good addition or not. My only other addition is a 60min for about 30IBU; everything else comes from flameout/dry.

Try upping your flameout and dry hops on the next batch.

Thanks Jimmy. The other thing I need to do is throttle back on the bittering hops. We've been ending up in the 50-60ibu range (on purpose), but I think we'll aim for 30 next time around. Thanks.

You won't need much from the initial bittering if you have enough late hops to back it up. I definitely don't find my IPA to be under bittered, and I'm sure those who have tried it would agree.

A beer with a nice bitterness, but a ton of hop flavor/aroma is what I like. In order to get that you need to use a lot of hops and use them at the end of the boil and during dry hopping.

We are not quite 3 months into the year. I've brewed 12 different beers this year, in eleven different styles, three of the brews were split batches though (1 brew = 2 beers).

Anyone else been brewing a lot? ...Where's Keith? Lying on some tropical beach I suppose.

Not nearly enough. We brewed a few batches a month or two ago (before the massive amounts of snow). Hoping to get a few more batches done soon...

Haven't brewed since my Saison for the advent beer exchange. Taking a few days off the week of Easter and planning on getting about 45 gallons fermenting since I'm completely out of beer.

Your kit is so tight that Nash pilots on it. I'm not going to pretend I'm not jealous. You should be hitting up Brew-Ha for endorsement dollars though :D

I emailed them a week or so ago about what the homebrew offerings will be like, and below is their response:
For homebrewers, we'll likely be using a limited/seasonal release model, where we'll announce the next strain/blend we'll be producing for homebrewers, and then your local homebrew shop will take pre-orders and handle distribution. These strains will tend to be stuff that's more unique or hard to get: bretts, belgian blends, wild yeasts, souring bugs, etc.

Pro brewers will be able to buy large pitches of these strains plus the more traditional Saccharomyces strains.

We'll also give homebrew clubs access to the full strain collection for group buys, so get enough Brewnosers together who want to use the same yeast and we can do up a special batch for you. We haven't figured out what our minimum order number will be yet though.

That last paragraph is real interesting.

Can anyone say brewnosers yeast strain? That'd be fucking awesome.

I don't think that's what he meant. I think he was saying if we had enough people willing to buy the same yeast (that isn't a offering to the homebrew stores), that they would do a large batch and individually package for us.

Yeah, I just think it would be cool to get club access to something normally restricted from homebrewers
