Well thought out, and a lot of good points. Quite the rant
Have you had much experience shopping at Noble Grape? I go to the one in Coldbrook. The staff are awesome there, they’ve been like mentors on my journey since I first started brewing, and they’ve spent hours talking to me. They taught me how to keg initially. I remember it was my birthday Nov 2012 and Kathleen and I were in the store for at least an hour getting a full and excellent instruction and demonstration. I got all my used kegs from them, they were clean and not a bad price when you take into account no shipping. I got my CO2 tanks from there, they came full of CO2, and when they run out, I take them to NG for a tank exchange. I think that's an excellent service, convenient, quick, no hassle, they maintain the tanks. The CO2 tanks are a good price also compared to online (don't forget they are full). I pick up my bulk sacks of grain from NG. They have imported grains that I’m interested in, German Pilsner, and MO, and with the Brewnosers discount and NO shipping I’m way ahead. Ever got a quote on having a sack of grain shipped? I also pick up other things I need like PET bottles etc. I got the best deal there on my Blichmann gun, same with the 20 Gal blichmann pot I just bought from them. It was cheaper there than ordering online and paying shipping. They brought one into the store just for me to have a look at several months ago, they had to get it back in when I eventually decided to get it for the full volume mashing. That's another thing ...you can look at things and have a demonstration before you buy. It’s damn convenient having a local store of such high quality. The staff up here have a lot of brewing knowledge, they taught me a lot when I started out. Oh, nearly forgot, they just took my competition entry down to Garrisons, on the Thursday, in a snow storm.
Some things will be slightly more. As mentioned they have the costs of running a retail store. I like the experience of shopping in a small retail store. It's the complete opposite of Wal-Mart.
It doesn’t sound like anyone is ever going to get you to like that fermenting pot though
Ps. I thought the fermenter is the yeast which ferments. A container in which the fermenter ferments is a fermentor (with an or at the end). Am I wrong on that? I notice OBK calls them fermenters.
