I'm open, It's Roxy's bday on Wednesday and I has reserved that night in case we were going to do anything. But we've planning something for the weekend instead. I fixed the hours post.jacinthebox wrote:are you open Wednesday dave? I thought I read here you were closed but I think your website says that you're open.

Brewing up some of my house red tonight, looking forward to brewing something a little more interesting later this week
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

That's really good, I was expecting it to be higher for a 0 min addition.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Keith, why do you believe it should be higher? This is the math that beersmith is telling me so that's what I went with.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Brian, are you having much luck with your steeping, hop stands, whirlpool additions etc.? I tried it a few times and wasn't that impressed.LiverDance wrote:Brewing up my first crack at a session IPA or whatever the hell you want to call these things1.040 54IBU's all at 0 min with a 20min steep
I also think not enough hops. Doesn't seem like it would give you 54 IBUs, can't believe it says that, but if you've double checked your entries, it will probably be right.
Are you steeping at 90C? BS steeping calculations are for a steeping temperature of 90C, and he is estimating an IBU contribution of half the contribution of a similar boil time addition. So BS 2.2 will calculate your 20 min steep the same as a 10 min boil addition, in terms of IBUs. IBUs will be much less if the steep is at lower temperature than that, and BS does not calculate lower temperature steeps. The whole thing is up for debate also. Steeping at that temperature might cause DMS issues as it will still be being produced and not boiled off ???

I tasted the wort and there seemed to be the right amount of bitterness for what I'm shooting for but until it ferments I will reserve judgement. This is the first time I've only added hops at 0 mins

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I kegged my Le Dorado Saison, & a keg of Dos Amigo for pig roast.
Racked my Belgium Wheat saison on top of 2 cans of cherry puree. I have to rack my Blackberry Cream Ale over to a carboy tonight.
And tonight I'm brewing another batch of Dos Amigo.
We are starting to think about some Oktoberfest brews...leaving us some time to lager anything that needs to be lagered

I was really happy with my version Pineapple IPA. I didn't change the malt build and am kegging V2 of it tonight. I adjusted the hops, and used fresh pineapple in the boil vs juice. I'll try to find my hop schedule when I return home tonight. The batch I brewed was 5 gallon as I'm still playing with the hops a bit.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Just finished kegging my first Nut Brown and 2nd Pineapple IPA. Just about to work on this hard lemonade.
The Pineapple IPA is amazing, if it tastes this good once cold and carbonated, I'm not changing the recipe and it will be a full time resident on tap. I'm hoping the Belma or Sack Vegas disappear soon to make room.
Nut Brown is nice. I'm not sure how close it is to style, but will enjoy a pint of it soon as it is taking residence in my open tap.
