Re: Random brewing pics
IMO, it appears to be a decent little barrel construction wise. The price wasn't too bad either, especially with the engraving at no extra charge. I've never barrel aged before, but should be a fun process....and hopefully a worthwhile outcome.

Re: Random brewing pics
Yeah it is. We will get your weather tonight and into tomorrow. Pete is smoking a few racks of ribs tonight for our NEWF BBQ and tasting at his place.
I don't even know if my wife and myself and any of the other couples attending will be able to roll ourselves away from the feast planned. He already has told us no one is driving
and there was room for us to bunk down for the night. I think I'll just taxi home. He makes a wicked Porter and Stout as do quite a few of the members. I'll be bringing along my APA entry into the MALT comp for a tasting as well a few commercial brews.
My brew was in the fermenter and yeast pitched and into the fridge for fermenting as of noon today. Now to mow the lawn.

Re: Random brewing pics
Weather is definitely heading your way. It hit us pretty good around noon time and seems to be calming down now though we could just be in the eye at this point.

Tomorrow is recovery day, so nothing other than making bread for the week and other relaxing things. All the things a rainy windy day calls for.
Enjoy those ribs. They don't get any better than a nice dry rub and slow and low.

Don't think so Timgm- wrote:Making snowcrab helles Tony?

Besides, I have enough hops in there to take away any malt flavour.. wouldn't want any more competition
for flavour.

Success. Made it through my first 10g batch without a boil-over.

Good show. How much did you need to sparge with to get your boil volume, or did you simply top up the kettle?

Re: Random brewing pics
It was about 13 liters. The recipe called for 58 liters of water (43 liters into the fermenter, 90 minute boil, and 19.5lbs of grain, 1.050 OG). I likely could have fit 55 liters into the cooler along with the grain, but I figured it was easier/safer to sparge with the 13 liters. I actually overshot my gravity compared to my normal 5 gallon process, and the mash efficiency was set the same (77%) - maybe the sparge helped?LeafMan66_67 wrote:Good show. All kinds of room in there for your grain. Is that the full 34 liters?

Re: Random brewing pics
Yup! My cooler sucks though, temp has dropped 5 deg in 40 minutes (154, started too high, to 149).
I did better than that in my cut up keg wrapped in an old sleeping bag. Not sure what's up with that.

It's fine. Worry about hitting your strike temp, not heat loss.

Re: Random brewing pics
I might find some Brett myself. Barrel was a little dry looking. No leaks.
Filled her up with Russian Imperial Stout!
Beer was brewed in conjunction with a Masterbrewer and a hangover.
Buddy thought I should call it Black and Tackle. He figures there's at least three or four fights in a growler of that.
One barrel left and its going to be outta this world.
Stayed tuned for further updates.

Re: Random brewing pics
I woke up this morning to a pool of starter around my stir-plate. It's still foaming like crazy - I think I'm going to want a blow-off tube for this batch.
