We brewed a Steinbier (Hot Rocks)...FireStone Ale
We kept the last 3 stones of the boil to place in the primary...yeasties should eat the sugars off of the stones

will do...we used a partial grain/extract recipe for this...we had a SMaSH Pale in the Mash tun.
and didn't want to chance a mess up with an all grain.

If it turns out to be a great beer, we'll to an all grain next time

Haha nice. I think when I was reading up on it granite was the consensus. It was suggested hitting up a monument company for scrap stuff but even better if you don't have to go to far.

I did 40L of a mild, no sparge, but needed to top up with about 3L before the boil. Keggle was up to the cutout for the mash.

No sparge. I've been able to do 40 litre batches biab with about 1055 og. Haven't gone beyond that.

Pretty much the same on my equipment. I think my current IPA I needed a 10l top-up, but my Ordinary Bitter had none.
Currently on tap: Nothing!
In keg: Still nothing.
In Primary: Doggone American Rye Pale Ale

So with a 70 (or is that 80?) qt cooler one can do 40L 1.055.. so a 100 qt should more or less do 40L batches of big'ish beers no problem (say a 1.070 IPA)?

That is what I'm thinking of doing..

Also, technically I should be able to do 20L of 1.055 in say a 40 qt cooler?

Got my 20L oak barrel today. I'm planning on brewing a RIS pretty soon and let it barrel age for awhile.

That thing is awesome Shane :rockin:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
