How's the bcs no short measure? Brewed it up the other day.
Have you tried the hop bag yet?
Actually yes. Forgot to mention it.

Worked out really good. A lot easier than messing around with hop sock.

Only problem was that in the dark was hard to see how the boil was rolling.

Let me know what I owe you for it.

Brewing up my NHL hoppy session beer and a standard blonde ale.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Just going to bottle up a Festa Kit for my B-I-L tomorrow. I might be able to drink a few pints tomorrow during the storm seeing as I'm not going anywhere.
God, I can't wait to brew again... it seems so long ago.

Finally getting around to bottling my ESB. Strangely, every time I bottle I find myself thinking about kegs.
Bottled: ESB, Old Peculiar, Blonde Lager, Grolsch clone
On Tap: BCS Dry Stout, Festabrew Cervesa
Next: Grolsch clone 2.0, Irish ale

Going to attempt my first Munich Dunkel tomorrow, best to keep it simple as all-grain is still pretty new to me. Does this grain bill make sense, I modified it with my present inventory from a recipe on brew365?

7 lbs - Pilsner (2 row) Ger
2.5 lbs - Munich Malt
0.5 lbs - Crystal Malt 60L
0.5 lbs - Pale Chocolate Malt

Tettnang Hops
1oz - 60mins
0.5oz - 30mins
0.5oz - 10mins

Yeast - WY2206 Bavarian Lager with 500ml starter (mfg 10Jul12, forgot I had it)

OG: 1.055
IBU's: 23.4
SRM: 16.5
Est ABV: 5.8%

My basement is currently ~50F and stays that way in this weather, I guess I should just leave this lager in the primary of at least 14-21 days until the FG is reached before kegging? I normally use a beer belt on ales to speed things along, but this seems like a good opportunity to lager this batch.

One last question that may seem silly, I have a wort chiller but how efficient is it to just put the pot/wort into a snow bank this time of year, since my deck has plenty of snow at the present time?

Probably get noticed more if you start a new thread in the recipe section. IIRC, there is at least one munich dunkel recipe there to compare with too.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Thanks X, I need to start going through the recipe thread as I admit that I am in early days. I just started my boil, everything seems to going smoothly as all the Beer Smith numbers are working out. Nice day for deck brew, enjoying a nice cigar with a few pints of fishdisease Oatmeal Stout....thanks Dave.

It's 8:00 AM, 30 minutes left in a 90 minute mash, 2.5 gallon BIAB stout.

3# 2 row
.5 # roasted barley
.5 # choc. malt
1 # flaked barley

Dough in at 157 or so, down to 155 for bulk of mash.

60 minute boil with 1.5 oz Northern Brewer for 45. Pitching a Notty slurry from my last stout batch.

Ready. Set. Go.
