Grain Mill Gap Setting

Post by RossBee » Fri Apr 18, 2014 11:20 am

Just received my grain mill from OBK, and put it together. The roller gap is adjustable, where should it be for best performance. Do I just want to crack the grain, or do I tighten up the rolls to produce a bit more fines?

I'm at .030 but you'll find your sweet spot will depend on your gear and your mash particulars. I'd start around .038 and dial it down per brew depending on your efficiency.

If you don't have feeler gauges, OBK recommends using a credit card. A CC is about 0.030".

Thanks Guys. Shall have first attempt tomorrow. Exciting, get to try out the new mill, the new keggles, and the counter flow chiller, all in the same day. Wish me luck.
Got some 2 row, some Crystal 60, Centennial, Cascade, Willamette, let the recipe hunt begin.

95% 2-Row
5% Crystal 60

Great for Pale Ale or IPA.
