Yeah I think temp might have been the issue - solder may not have filled the joint properly. Going yo try with a better torch.thanks for the advice mark.

Liam

You can borrow my MAPP torch. I'll do the solder work for you if you want as well.

Thanks sandy - I'll get in touch if I can't get it to work using my dad's torch.

Your torch probably isn't the issue if you are trying to solder 3/8 tube to fittings. Are the fittings tight before you tried to solder them? Solder will join parts but won't fill the spaces if it is too large. Make sure you clean both the outside of the tubing and the inside of the connection before using flux and heat the fitting to be soldered after you mate the two parts. The solder should run into the join and build up fast to seal.

I use a common propane torch to solder copper pipe as large as 1 1/2 inch as part of my job frequently without issue.

Roger. Could be the fittings, but it is a size adaptor thingy (3/8 tube to 1/2" pipe) then a couple elbows and lengths of pipe. Will try again this weekend and post back an update
