Keezer running, but temp won't drop
Does anyone know why this might be happening? It won't go cooler than 12 deg. C. My temp controller is one of those old-school ones by Johnson Controls, with the copper bulb.
Does this mean that the gas needs to be recharged? Is it possible to get the gas recharged?

Have you verified that the cooler will go cooler if you don't use the Johnson?

It's wired in there, so I haven't tried to bypass it yet. I will try that when I get home. It does cut out if I set the temp higher, but when I set it lower it doesn't go lower than 12.

Take it out of the loop altogether to make sure the keezer still works.

Re: Keezer running, but temp won't drop
And another kegarator maybe bites the dust... Came home after a week away and the temp was 29C, warmest place in the house. Getting a loud click every minute or so, followed by a quieter click a couple seconds later. So that's a relay obviously and possibly the temp/safety overload for it is malfunctioning. Hoping it's possible to find and replace the troublesome part. Any advice?

Re: Keezer running, but temp won't drop
I just changed the start relay in my ferm chamber. Reliable Parts in Burnside ($12), had to get a different one as the stock one was obsolete. Make sure you check the windings before you buy one as it could be the compressor itself (it still could be even if they measure good, but the odds are better).
EDIT: just noticed you were in Charlottetown, so that doesn't help as much... You can order from them online though if you cant find anything local. Also: http://www.amresupply.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
One of the easiest way to check the start relay is take it off and shake it, if it rattles around the PTC in it has blown (apart).

Re: Keezer running, but temp won't drop
Hi Allan. We replaced the replay because it was rattling. That hasn't solved the problem unfortunately. May be the compressor but still a couple more things to test.
Do you know how to test the overload? It's a mrp26all-34. I have it off and am getting 0 ohms between any combination of the 3 pins.
And you mentioned the windings. How do I test those?

Hmm. I'm also getting a short between all 3 pins on the compressor. Is it toast?

How much of a short, the coils are only a few ohms on a good one...
When it runs does it humm for a short time then you hear a click and it shuts off? Was the relay/starter an exact replacement?

The relay was an exact replacement. There's also an "overload", which tests fine (continuity good).
It's a "True" commercial keg fridge. I'm trying to track down the guy who does the service for the bars/restaurants around town.

Re: Keezer running, but temp won't drop
Moved the keezer on Sunday. Its an older type freezer with the stc-1000. I have mine set at 2.5 with a variance of .5. Anyway after I moved it, just a few feet, now it seem to go between 5-5.5. I think the old girl may be worn out. This 5-5.5 wouldn't bother some but I enjoy mine on the cooler side.

Sounds like you are either low on refrigerant or your compressor may be toast. If you are looking to have it serviced, you can try Jamieson Electric & Refrigeration. We use them for all our refrigeration troubles at work; everything from fridges to -80°C freezers. We have had nothing but great service from them. No idea what they would charge to look at it for you though. Hope its nothing serious! Good luck!hogie wrote:Yes I hear a click and then it shuts off.AllanMar wrote:How much of a short, the coils are only a few ohms on a good one...

Went as high as 6.5. Now this morning we are down to 3.2. Very strange.
