Ordering extract through NCM group buy
With shipping taken into account, which do you think works out to be a better deal, the 5 gallon pail of LME or the 50lb bag of DME?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Ordering extract through NCM ground buy
The topic should have been "group" buy... Stupid tablet!
Thanks to whoever fixed the heading.

Re: Ordering extract through NCM group buy
I guess I'm going to answer my own question...
Okay, so I just realized that it says right in the catalogue that the pail weighs 60lbs, and I know that 50lbs of DME equals about 62lbs of LME. Since the LME is $15 cheaper, and the shipping can't be that different, the LME is the better deal.
I'm having highschool math flashbacks.

I guess the other question you need to ask yourself is ease of use.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Yeah, you've definitely got a point there, weighing out the dry does sound easier. So far I've been using LME, but in nice pre-measured containers from NG. A 5gal pail of syrup does sound like a serious PITA.

There are pro's and cons to each for sure.

Thanks everyone - It seems like DME is definitely the way to go.
Liam: Just out of curiosity, about how long did it take for the LME to go off? I know it's best when really fresh anyway.

I dunno exactly, but i'd say approx 6 months. I was storing it at room temp and probably wasn't very sterile when scooping some out.
